Phaseolus polystachios (L.) Britton, Sterns & Poggenb.

Common Name: WILD BEAN
Coefficient of Conservatism: 10
Coefficient of Wetness: 5
Wetness Index: UPL
Physiognomy: Nt P-Vine
Status: X

Collected in thickets on Belle Isle, Wayne Co. in 1896. If native, this was surely at the northern edge of the range for this species.

Though with brighter pink-purple flowers in a larger inflorescence, this tuberous-rooted perennial is is surprisingly similar vegetatively to the common annual Amphicarpaea, and there is the possibility that it has been overlooked in southernmost Michigan.
