Phaseolus

1. Raceme many-flowered, slender, elongate at maturity, exceeding the subtending petiole (or even the entire leaf); pedicels much longer than the tiny bractlets (less than 1 mm) at base of calyx.

P. polystachios

1. Raceme few-flowered, scarcely if at all exceeding the subtending petiole; pedicels shorter than the pair of large bractlets which subtend and conceal the calyx at anthesis.
