A species of Europe and adjacent Asia, superficially resembling S. acre in habit, but with smaller flowers and distinctive leaves. Locally established as an escape on the grounds of the University of Michigan Biological Station, Cheboygan Co. (Thieret 48960 in 1976, MICH, UMBS), but as yet rare elsewhere.
