Along roadsides and railroads; thickets, banks, and shores; borders of forests and invading them. First collected out of cultivation in 1939 in Kalamazoo Co.
A Japanese species, rather frequently escaped and hybridizing with L. tatarica to form L. ×bella. The corolla is white, turning yellow in age. A specimen from Berrien Co. appears to be the hybrid with L. ruprechtiana Regel (L. ×muscaviensis Rehder).
