A Eurasian introduction, an uncommon weed except in calcareous rocks and gravels around the northern ends of Lakes Michigan and Huron. Edges and openings in forests and thickets, often in rocky and gravelly ground including railroads, roadsides, and shores. Collected in Washtenaw Co. by the First Survey in 1838; next gathered in 1861 on Mackinac Island and still especially frequent in the Straits of Mackinac area.
The nutlets of this species and L. latifolium are generally finely but sparsely pitted.
