Known from a single Michigan site, at the edge of a Thuja forest in marly soil over tufa and limestone in Mackinac Co., where first collected by F. W. & R. B. Case in 1996.

One of the most local Great Lakes endemics, occurring outside of Michigan on limestone pavements (alvars), and rarely dunes, gravelly prairies, and rocky, open forests in the Marblehead area of Ohio, the Bruce Peninsula and Manitoulin Island, Ontario, and (formerly) northern Illinois.
