Native to Europe and western Asia, spreading into a young mesic forest in Berrien Co., where found by T. Walters in 2014. This is a popular garden plant, with large leaves borne in the early spring, and large pink (rarely white) flowers developing from leafless corms in late summer or fall; the leaves not appearing until the following spring.
