Native farther south, in Michigan first collected in 1968 in Gratiot Co. (G. Gopoian in 1968, ALM). Like T. luteum, it is a popular shade-garden plant apparently spreading from cultivation elsewhere in Michigan though herbarium documentation is sparse as yet.
