A Eurasian species, grown as an ornamental (for its calyx) and rarely escaping or spreading by rhizomes if not seeds. Near old gardens, railroads, and disturbed ground. First collected in 1934 in Houghton Co.
A very distinctive species, sometimes placed into another genus as Alkekengi officinarum Moench
