Leymus racemosus spikelets & node B. S. Walters spikelets & node

A huge Asian species, apparently also planted occasionally for stabilizing sand. Collected outside of cultivation by M. R. Penskar and J. V. Freudenstein in 1985 in Van Buren Co. Often known as Elymus racemosus Lam.

The glumes of this coarse species are narrow and very long, giving a "bristly" appearance to the spike.
