Fields, forests, in a diversity of habitats, often, but not restricted to sandy acid soils. Our most widespread and frequent Botrychium in forested settings.
This species has a slightly glaucous green color; the vegetative leaf in well developed individuals is more or less bipinnate. Sporangia are turning yellow by about June 10 with spore discharge before July 1 and plant dieback by late summer, except in the north.
