Spreads extensively by leafy stolons, forming large dense colonies, albeit rather local, along the Huron and Raisin rivers and nearby lakes and streams. Recently found along the St. Joseph River in St. Joseph County.
The flowers have white corollas with one or more lobes purple or streaked with purple and are crowded into small dense heads on axillary peduncles (4.5–) 6–11 cm long.
