Wet open areas; a native of Eurasia sparingly introduced into North America.

This non-native wetland Rumex was first collected in 2018 by R. G. Schipper in Allegan Co., and is a quite distinct plant, with a lax, interrupted, quite leafy, paniculate inflorescence. It also differs from all our other wetland Rumex in the narrow tepals, leaving the nutlet largely visible. Only R. sanguineus, an alien known from Ontario, but not yet Michigan has similar tepals and inflorescences. If found in Michigan, R. sanguineus would be distinguished from R. conglomeratus by having only the lowest inflorescence branches with leafy bracts and only one of the inner tepals with a swollen tubercle (“grain”) rather than all three.
