Roadsides, fields, railroads, often forming large tangled patches. First collected in 1892 in St. Clair Co. Although the species is sometimes thought to be native in northern North America as well as Eurasia, our plants appear recently introduced.
The leaflets often have a more prominent little “spine” at the tip than the minute tip in V. villosa.
