Both of our species are Mexican natives familiar in cultivation and occasionally escaped. They are annuals with deeply pinnatisect leaves, the segments narrowly lanceolate to filiform, and with very showy heads. Most cultivated plants may lack the pappus awns normally characteristic of the genus.
