Occasional around refuse piles and near cultivated ground. First collected in 1912 in St. Clair Co.
Zucchini and acorn squashes are among the edible fruits of this species, of which other variants include bicolored and other diverse ornamental gourds. Cultivated pumpkins are mostly this species, but some are C. maxima and others are C. mixta Pang. and C. moschata Poir.
