A cosmopolitan weed, probably at least in part native in North America and known in Michigan since the First Survey (1838); now in all kinds of disturbed places and disturbed sites, spreading into forests and marshy places.
For convenience, all plants lacking mature fruit but obviously belonging with C. album or its relatives have been mapped here, though some might belong with C. berlandieri. Chenopodium strictum, with narrowly oblong (parallel sided) leaves with a blunt apex has been reported for Michigan, and some of our collections may be this, but most of our narrow leaved material is either obviously depauperate or too immature to determine with confidence.
