Tulipa gesneriana A. A. Reznicek

Roadsides, fields, and forest edges, a ubiquitously cultivated species likely originating as a cultigen in Turkey.

This familiar spring bulb has been collected several times in Michigan, first by O. A. Farwell in 1891 in Washtenaw Co., but was presumed to be merely a “throw-out,” never truly established (despite notes that it was an “escape”). Enough records have accumulated that we humbly add it to the flora.
