A formerly commonly cultivated native of South America collected along a roadside in St. Joseph Co. by Abram Sager during the First Survey in 1837 and not collected as a wild plant since. Tobacco was widely used and cultivated by early settlers, but fortunately much less commonly cultivated and used now.
