A native of farther south in the US; commonly cultivated in southern Michigan for its evergreen leaves and red fruits and apparently beginning to escape into open forests and forest margins in the southwestern Lower Peninsula. First collected by W. S. Martinus in Allegan Co. in 2002 and R. Tatina in Berrien Co. in 2009.
