Plants from several localities in Wayne and Monroe Co. are from swamps and floodplains insofar as habitat is indicated.
Michigan plants are apparently all f. intermedia (Dyal) D. M. Eggers, with fruit ± pointed, longer than broad. The lower leaves of V. umbilicata are usually more narrowed to a petiolar base than those of V. chenopodiifolia.
