Native to southwestern United States and adjacent Mexico, but occasionally established as a weed or escape from cultivation across the continent (and abroad). Cultivated ground, farmyards, alleys, roadsides. First collected in 1874 in Washtenaw Co. Our plants are sometimes segregated as D. wrightii Regel.
