Spreading into thickets in Texas Tp., Kalamazoo Co., where collected in 1939, and apparently also in the Island Lake Recreation Area, Livingston Co. This is a Eurasian species, much branched and suckering, grown for its flowers, and rarely escaping from cultivation. In Europe the hard wood is used for walking sticks and tool handles.
