This species has large flowers (up to 2.5 cm or sometimes more in width), large fruits (up to 2.2 cm in diameter), and large leaves, sometimes laciniate on vigorous vegetative shoots (often as wide as 8 cm), and blooms very early (sometimes starting in late April, and reaching peak bloom by mid-May.
