WILD-LILAC, REDSTEM CEANOTHUS
Rocky bluffs and borders of forests. An attractive shrub blooming in late May and June in northern Keweenaw Co., where it has been known for more than a century; the only known occurrence in eastern North America. Its principal range is in the Pacific Northwest.
Though a striking disjunct, this plant is locally common where it occurs. It is much larger than our other two Ceanothus species (both of which may occur with it locally), becoming several m tall with a prominent trunk.
