Leptoloma cognatum of Michigan Flora.
Dry prairies, old fields, sandy open ground.
The spikelets are narrowly elliptic (unlike most species of Panicum, which genus it somewhat resembles), and often have stripes of silky appressed pubescence.
Records (mostly recent) from north of the middle of the Lower Peninsula are often from along roadsides or in other dry disturbed, sandy areas, and are likely introduced.
