Collected in Berrien Co. (Hess, 1986) and more recently in Mason Co. by D. C. Dister, and now found in several other locations. Probably somewhat overlooked in southwestern Michigan and seemingly also increasing in abundance and spreading northward. See also Thomson (2005).
The name W. papulifera C. H. Thomps. has often been used for this species.
