Included in L. minor in Michigan Flora.
Similar habitats to L. minor; floating on the surface of standing, even stagnant water of lakes, ponds, borders of streams, quiet backwaters, floodings, etc.
This species is said to be unique among our duckweeds in overwintering by producing, in the fall, small rootless dark green turions that sink. See notes under L. minor for further distinctions. Most of our collections have been determined by Landolt (see also Landolt, 1986).
