A native of eastern Asia, occasionally escaped from cultivation. First collected in 1986 by R. W. Smith in Lenawee Co. as spreading to a roadside bank from a garden in Adrian.
This is an unusual, attractive, and agressivly rhizomatous plant, but so far spread by seed has not been repoerted.
