Tofieldia glutinosa of Michigan Flora.
Common on wet sandy and marly shores, beach pools, interdunal sand flats, etc., around northern Lakes Michigan and Huron; rock crevices along Lake Superior; more local on on peaty shores and in fens throughout the state, but especially in southern Michigan.
The red capsules are as conspicuous in late summer as the white flowers are in early summer.
