Our few specimens, insofar as any habitat is stated, are from a shaded river bank (Berrien Co.) and upland roadside and pasture (Monroe Co.).
Sometimes considered a variety of P. verticillatum, as P. verticillatum var. pilosum (Nutt.) Cooperr. Our few specimens seem distinct enough, and in a genus where hybridization is suspected, the significance of intermediates is not always clear.
