A southern and eastern species, collected north of Dayton in Berrien Co. (R. Schulenberg in 1972, MOR).
Pycnanthemum muticum differs from P. verticillatum in larger principal leaves, ± ovate, a third or more as broad as long. Several collections from Huron and Berrien Cos. may be hybrids of P. muticum and P. pilosum.
