One of the most widespread of our interesting aquatics of softwater lakes and bays. Often forms dense turfs in deep water, the essentially leafless stems arising singly along buried rhizomes. In shallow water, at the sandy to mucky edges of lakes and ponds, the emersed tips produce typical Myriophyllum flowers. Flowering stems can attain a height of 30 cm or more, but they are usually not over half that tall.
