Introduced from Europe. Occurs in disturbed habitats similar to those of C. erythraea, including roadsides and lawns, but more often in areas where salt is applied.
Much more recently invading Michigan, where not collected until 1959 in Oakland Co. A shorter and more delicate plant than C. erythraea, up to 20 cm tall, and usually very bushy in aspect. See Pringle (2007) for the authorship of the name.
