Rich, moist deciduous forests, often around the margins of seeps and springs, at the base of slopes, and along smaller streams.

This is our largest and most striking Dryopteris. The young fronds typically show faint yellow-green highlights on the outer edges of the frond. The name is usually spelled Dryopteris goldiana.
