L. Wallis
Dry to wet deciduous, mixed conifer-hardwood, or coniferous forests; our commonest upland forest species of woodfern.
A very common species, generally with the blades less dissected than D. intermedia. Unusual specimens, especially those where the lower pinnae proportions are ambiguous or where the dissection of the blade seems more than usual are likely D. ×triploidea Wherry and should be examined closely for the presence of sparse glands and, if possible, abortive spores to confirm the hybrid.
