rooting culms
Fens, calcareous shores and exposed marly flats.
The culms are flattened, and the vegetative culms elongate greatly as the season progresses, sometimes to 1.5-2 m long, and typically arching and rooting at the tips. The resulting loops may catch the foot of the collector, calling his attention to a plant he might otherwise overlook. See also comments under E. melanocarpa and E. tricostata.
