A rare introduction from Eurasia, collected in Michigan in Antrim Co. in 1998 by P. E. Rothrock.

This colony forming species resembles a robust Carex aquatilis, which however has only 2 stigmas, and essentially nerveless perigynia only ca. 2–3.5 mm long.
