River banks. A very rare species at its northern limit in the western Upper Peninsula of Michigan, where collected in Ontonagon Co. by W. A. MacKinnon in 2006. Michigan (and apparently also Wisconsin and Minnesota) populations have a pubescent calyx, but collections from farther south and east may be glabrous.
