A variable species of the western United States. Collected in Michigan only in 1928 by O. A. Farwell (8218, 8221, BLH, GH) along the railroad between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, Washtenaw Co.
Some of the forms have all the leaves pinnatifid, but the plants collected in Michigan have narrow entire upper leaves. The fruit is ± ovate, narrowed to the apex, at which the style protrudes beyond 2 acute teeth.
