A native of Eurasia first collected in 1978 in moist thickets in Washtenaw Co., though longer known from slightly farther east. Now locally frequent in forest understories, shady yards, shady river banks; a rapid invader of forest understories.
This is sure to continue to spread, especially near cities and towns. Plants are very variable in size from huge, bushy plants approaching a meter tall, to tiny, slender plants with a few flowers only a few cm tall.
