Native west and south of Michigan, this annual or perhaps sometimes short lived-perennial is apparently part of wildflower seed mixes and also grown as a bee plant. It persists or wanders somewhat from cultivation, and was first collected derived from weedy plantings in Alpena Co. by D. Garlitz in 1991; more recently found in a wilder setting in Allegan Co.
