A very showy native of the Caucasus, well known in cultivation and collected in Keweenaw Co. in 2014 along a roadside and spreading into sunny openings in adjacent forests.
The heads, at least in the Michigan plants, open bright pink and fade to a pale, dull pink or almost white. The leaves are delicately dissected and "ferny."
