Home Brassicaceae Barbarea

Barbarea stricta Andrz.

Common Name: YELLOW ROCKET
Coefficient of Conservatism: *
Coefficient of Wetness: 5
Wetness Index: UPL
Physiognomy: Ad B-Forb

A species of disturbed open ground introduced from Eurasia and known from only one Michigan collection, F. J. Hermann 7448 (MO, NA) in 1936 from the University of Michigan Botanical Gardens (Washtenaw Co.), determined by I. A. Al-Shehbaz. This number may be mixed; a rather immature duplicate in MICH may be simply B. vulgaris, as the larger petals are 5 mm long or slightly longer and the stylar beak of the fruit is already up to 2 mm long. Better collections are needed. Perhaps only a transient waif, but it may be that this entity is overlooked, as it was reported from North America as recently as 1978 (Mulligan, 1978).
