Native to dry open places west of the Great Lakes, but collected as probably a railroad waif by O. A. Farwell near Dearborn (Wayne Co.) in 1917. The species is known from areas in both northern and southern Ontario adjacent to Michigan and is likely to appear in the state again.

The slender habit and short stature (as this genus goes), with very narrow, densely silky leaf segments, characterize this species, which has long hairs on the receptacle as in A. absinthium
