Fields, roadsides, and turf; can be a serious weed of lawns. The oldest Michigan collections seen is 1894 from Bay Co.

The corolla is less strongly veined than in T. campestre but more strongly than in Medicago lupulina, which T. dubium resembles rather closely, but in which the veins are scarcely if at all evident. The terminal leaflet is sometimes not distinctly stalked.
