A woody species from Asia, occasionally cultivated and beginning to spread into dry fields. First collected by P. W. Thompson in Macomb Co. and M. R. Penskar in Clinton Co. in 1988.

Similar to Lespedeza thunbergii, but apparently generally with wider leaflets, ours having the largest ca. 1.3–1.6 (–1.7) times as long as wide, while our material of L. thunbergii has the largest leaflets ca. 1.6–2 times as long as wide.
