Fens, wet sandy or stony shores, marly beach pools, interdunal flats, clearings or trails in peaty marshes and meadows, in calcareous situations.
This forms a distinctive very low, fine green "turf" made up of abundant small tufts in some wet, sunny calcareous sites. But it is easy to overlook in fens.
