Home Cyperaceae Carex

Carex umbellata Willd.

Common Name: SEDGE
Coefficient of Conservatism: 5
Coefficient of Wetness: 5
Wetness Index: UPL
Physiognomy: Nt P-Sedge

Sandy or gravelly ground, rock crevices, moist banks and sandy excavations; gravelly shores, open, dry forests, and coniferous thickets especially near the Great Lakes.

Definitely more of a calciphile than the very similar Carex tonsa, and regular on thin soil over limestone. Doubtless overlooked.
