A collection of what appears to be this species, a native of southeastern Europe and Asia, was made on a sunny roadside bank in Oakland Co. (J. A. Churchill 747612 in 1974, MSC), where it was “well escaped and established.”

The petals are distinctly papillose within, and the plants of the Michigan collection are somewhat taller than the usual low stature of this species.
